Spring Ceramic Showcase: 120 Handmade Vessels Displayed in Saint-Girons

Last weekend, our Saint-Girons headquarters opened its doors for the annual Spring Community Showcase. Over one hundred and twenty ceramic bowls, sculpted terracotta vessels, and decorative wall tiles crafted by participants in our weekly "Tactile Pottery" atelier were exhibited for family, friends, and neighbors to admire.
The showcase celebrated the incredible progress made by our senior and youth participants over the winter months. For many elders who struggled with severe arthritic stiffness or social withdrawal, seeing their glazed creations displayed alongside works from local teenagers was an unforgettable moment of pride. Following the exhibition, participants shared a communal tea of locally harvested mountain herbal blends, exchanging stories and celebrating collective creativity.

Acoustic Harps and Memory Care: Expanding Our Hospital Presence

We are delighted to report the successful renewal and expansion of our partnership protocol with the Saint-Girons Public Hospital geriatric care ward. Beginning this month, our volunteer acoustic harpists and certified vocal facilitators will increase bedside interventions to two mornings per week.
During these thirty-minute intimate acoustic visits, patients suffering from Alzheimer's and advanced cognitive disorientation are invited to listen to gentle Celtic and Pyrenean melodies. Hospital nursing staff have documented notable decreases in daytime agitation and anxiety, alongside spontaneous moments of singing and lucidity. This initiative underscores the profound public health value of bringing live music directly to the most vulnerable members of our society.

Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Jean-Pierre, Mountain Van Driver & Woodworker

"When I retired from my carpentry workshop three years ago, I didn't want to just sit at home watching television," shares Jean-Pierre, 68, who has been driving A CORDA's logistics van through the Couserans valleys twice weekly. "When we arrive in a village like Massat with the van loaded with easels, clay, and instruments, the smiles on the faces of the old folks make every kilometer worthwhile."
Jean-Pierre also constructs custom ergonomic wooden armrests and easel stands that allow participants in wheelchairs to paint comfortably. His dedication exemplifies the practical, generous spirit that defines our entire volunteer community.

Summer Wild Pigment Foraging Expeditions Announced

As the snow melts from the Pyrenean peaks, our ecological arts team is finalizing the trail schedule for our summer natural pigment foraging workshops. Between June and August 2026, four bi-weekly Saturday walking excursions will be conducted along the Salat and Lez riverbanks.
Participants will learn to gather sustainable botanical extracts, crush iron-rich ochres, and mix non-toxic paints for communal canvas projects. Registration is completely free for all Ariège residents, with priority reservations provided to low-income families and rural youth.
